This client got in touch to organise a deep clean and seal of a lovely Slate tiled kitchen floor after long standing tenants of 12 years moved out of their property in Dawlish. Like many landlords at the moment, they decided not to find another tenant and decided to prepare the property for sale.
The kitchen Floor was made up of 28m2 of Brazilian Slate with white grouting and a centrally located island to work around. Any existing sealer if there ever was one was long gone and the grout lines were well soiled, especially around the prep area.
I worked out a detailed quote for its renovation which was accepted and a date scheduled.
Cleaning a Brazilian Slate Tiled Floor
Before cleaning started the plinths under the kitchen units were removed and skirting boards protected. Cleaning then started with the application of Tile Doctor Pro-Clean diluted with three parts water. This was left to soak in for ten minutes before being agitated with a rotary machine fitted with a 240-grit carbide brush.
This made light work of cleaning the Slate and grout lines releasing the soiling from the floor. The soils were then rinsed with water and extracted with a wet vacuum as the work progressed.
Once the initial clean was complete we worked the floor again using a soft 800-grit diamond pad and Tile Doctor Grout Clean-up diluted with 5 parts water. This solution further cleans the stone and grout and neutralises its ph. level after using Pro-Clean with is an alkaline cleaning product.
Once done the floor was carefully rinsed and extracted again to remove any trace of cleaning product prior to sealing.
Sealing a Brazilian Slate Tiled Floor
The floor was left to dry off overnight and then checked the following day with a moisture meter to verify it was dry and ready for sealing. To bring up an attractive stain sheen the floor was sealed with several coats of Tile Doctor Seal & Go which is a water based acrylic sealer which complimented the slate and added the wow factor.
The clients were thrilled with the results and were now one step closer to being ready for the estate agent’s photographer to come in and take pictures for the listing.
